firkin ( fur ‘ kin ), n 1. a small wooden tub for butter, lard, etc. 2. a measure of capacity equal to 1/4 barrel.
Folklore has it that this Post and Beam Mercantile building sat on the side of the Ontario & Western railroad tracks that worked there way north along Hamden's Main Street. Either the firkins were made there or they were filled there with butter to be shipped to the market.
Several years ago the building was restored and opened as a Antique Center and was developed as a cordial and inviting place to shop and exchange wisdom on antiques and collectables. Located on one of the busiest corridors in the county, in an up-and-coming area. Ideal for the artist or investor, antique and consignment, art gallery, used books, or sculptors studio. You are limited only by your imagination.
Amenities such as public half bath, large private bedroom or office, full bath with shower. Ample off street parking, large overhead garage door works as a loading dock, full drive-in basement. Rear deck offers privacy and valley views. With a little work it could become a unique artist home and studio. Great curb appeal with board and batten siding.
